Lesson 10
When the Mighty-One YHWH revealed Himself to Moses and had Moses write the Torah, ( first five books of the Bible ) there was not one single mention of an evil angel named Satan, or evil angels, or for that matter any being that could tempt you in your mind to transgress the law! In fact the main point of the Torah is to proclaim there is only one Mighty-One, and that one Mighty-One is YHWH.
Ex.20:2-3, I am YHWH your Mighty-One, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other Mighty- One before Me.
Deut.4:35-39, Unto you it was shown, that you might know that YHWH, He is the Almighty, there is none else beside Him. Know therefore this day, and consider it in your mind, that YHWH He is the Almighty in heaven above, and upon earth beneath: there is none else.
Some people will say, we believe in the one true Mighty-One, but what does that have to do with our belief in Satan? Just this, Satan, as portrayed by the Congregations of the world, by all reasonable accounts, must be classed as a Mighty-One.
First of all, they teach that Satan is omnipresent, meaning , ( i.e. able to be everywhere at once. ) Satan, they say, is here tempting you and me on this side of the world, but at the same time is tempting everybody else all over the rest of the world! They believe Satan is everywhere tempting every person in the world to follow his evil ways ! They believe he is tempting more than five billion people every minute of every day! It is certain that no Malik could do that! But they say,”He is a fallen angel. Well let’s examine that for a moment.
The scriptures speak of angels or messengers in several places, but in each and every one of those places there is no indication of omnipresence. In each instance an angel could only be in one place at one time. For example, in the book of Daniel an angel or messenger was to deliver a message to Daniel, but he was delayed for 21 days and he could not come to Daniel because he had to stay with the kings of Persia.
Dan.10:10-14, And,behold,a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said to me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto you, and stand upright: for unto you am I now sent.
And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that you did set your heart to understand, and to chasten yourself before YHWH, your words were heard, and I am come for your words.
But the king of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now I come ( 21 days later ) to make you understand what shall befall your people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days”.
So we see neither man nor angels ( Mal’ik ) have the power to be in more than one place at a time! That leaves only one category, the category of Mighty-One! But since the Scriptures teach us there is only one Mighty-One, and that One is YHWH, there is absolutely no room for the false belief of an evil angel called “Satan”.
So then why, do the scriptures refer to one called Satan?
This is not a difficult question. The scriptures were originally written in Hebrew and the Hebrew word meaning adversary, or accuser, is Saw-tawn.
This Hebrew word should have been translated into English as, the adversary, an adversary, the accuser, or opponent. This would have been the correct and proper way to translate from one language to another, ( i.e. render the word as to its meaning in the other language.)
However, in many cases ( not all ) the translators chose to transliterate saw-tawn, simply meaning adversary, as Satan, ( as it is to be done correctly with a name” with a capital ” S ” thus turning the word Saw-tawn, which means adversary into a name!
Saw-tawn in Hebrew is not a name ! It is simply a word that means adversary!
It is not that the translators did not know what they were doing. For example, in the King James Version they rendered the word correctly in a few places see I Sam.29:4, II Sam.19:22, and I kings 5:4, and 11:14,23,25.
However, on nineteen occasions they transliterated saw-tawn into Satan.
You would do well to look up these six verses above! You would do well to look up these nineteen verses containing Satan and read the correct word adversary, or accuser in place of the false name Satan. You will soon see how the adversaries in these texts apply to men, in most cases, and not a supernatural, all powerful, omnipresent Satan.
In one outstanding case it is YHWH Himself who is the Satan, “saw-tawn”, or adversary to the sons of Jacob!
KJV
1 Chron.21:1, And Satan stood up against the sons of Jacob, and provoked David to number them.
Correctly rendered, this should have read, And an adversary stood up.
Just who was this adversary? For the answer we have to read elsewhere!
11 Sam.24:1, And again the anger of YHWH was kindled against the sons of Jacob, and He ( YHWH) moved David against them to say, go, number Jacob and Judah”
. Be advised that YHWH Himself is the saw-tawn in these two above scriptures!
Would you call YHWH, Satan? I would say He was an adversary to the sons of Jacob in the above verses, but I wouldn’t call Him by the false name Satan!
A saw-tawn is an adversary, it can be a man, an army, a government, or in the case above, the heavenly Father. An adversary is always something that opposes. We are saw-tawns against Almighty YHWH if we oppose His laws!
You may ask, and rightly so, but doesn’t the Bible refer to the works of the Devil repeatedly ? Yes, in the false New Testament it speaks this way , but where the word devil or devils is used in the writings of the prophets, this word is used instead of the word idol.
If you read these scriptures you will see that it is speaking of devils that are the works of mans hands; in other words idols! Once again, however, I must refer you to the prophets.
